Georgia withdraws from Eurovision Song Contest 2009.
Georgia has decided to... pull out from the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. The broadcaster decided that no change of the song or its lyrcis will be made, which was demanded by the EBU.

Georgia has decided to pull out of the Moscow Eurovision Song Contest after the contest organiser, the European Broadcasting Union, offered Georgia to either re-write its song lyrics or to submit another song. "We will not go to Moscow and will not take part in Eurovision 2009," said Natia Uznadze, a producer of Georgian public television, who is responsible for Georgia's Eurovision entry.

The EBU had said that the song We don't wanna put in violates the rules of the contest, which read: The lyrics and/or performance of the songs shall not bring the Shows or the Eurovision Song Contest as such into disrepute. No lyrics, speeches, gestures of a political or similar nature shall be permitted during the Eurovision Song Contest.

"It's still not clear to us why Eurovision took this decision. We have not received a concrete explanation," Uznadze said. The song titled We don't wanna put in, performed by the group Stephane and 3G with its alleged play on the prime minister's surname, was rejected by the Eurovision organisers on Tuesday for the event to be held in May, which Russia is hosting.

Ένα υπονοούμενο πολιτικής σημασίας -όπως υποστηρίζει η EBU- είναι η αιτία που η Γεωργία δεν θα συμμετάσχει τελικά στον 54ο διαγωνισμό της Eurovision. Ένα...σήριαλ που είχε ξεκινήσει από πέρυσι, όταν οι υπεύθυνοι της γεωργιανής κρατικής τηλεόρασης είχαν δηλώσει ότι δεν θα συμμετάσχουν εις ένδειξη διαμαρτυρίας για τον πόλεμο στη Νότια Οσετία.


Ωστόσο, η νίκη της Γεωργίας στον διαγωνισμό Eurovision junior, αλλά και οι 12 βαθμοί που έδωσε η Ρωσία στη χώρα, έκανε την κρατική τηλεόραση να αλλάξει γνώμη και να δηλώσει τελικά συμμετοχή στον διαγωνισμό της Μόσχας. Το συγκρότημα "Stefane & 3G" επελέγησαν να εκπροσωπήσουν τη χώρα με το τραγούδι "We don't wanna put in", το οποίο σύμφωνα με τους υπεύθυνους της EBU περιέχει στίχους με πολιτικό μήνυμα και υπονόουμενο που βάλλει σαφώς κατά του πρωθυπουργού της Ρωσίας, Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν και έτσι ζήτησε από τους Γεωργιανούς να αλλάξουν τον στίχο ή να υποβάλουν κάποιο άλλο τραγούδι. Από την πλευρά της, η κρατική τηλεόραση της Γεωργίας απεφάνθη ότι το κομμάτι δεν περιέχει κανένα πολιτικό μήνυμα και ότι δεν σκοπεύει να το αλλάξει, αλλά και ότι αυτή η πίεση ασκείται από πολιτικά μέσα της Ρωσίας, που διοργανώνει τον φετινό διαγωνισμό. Για αυτό το λόγο, η Γεωργία αποφάσισε να αποσυρθεί από τον 54ο διαγωνισμό της Eurovision.

Georgia was represented in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 2007, when Sopho came 12th with her song My Story. Last year, Diana Gurtskaya improved that record by one place, reaching the 11th place with Peace Will Come.
